Parker SSD Link is basically a closed loop, event driven, peer-to-peer, network system. Link communicates by using fiber optic cable at 2.7M baud. By simply plugging into one system/drive module, a user will gain access to all of the parameters on the entire system. Link allows for simple integration of large industrial systems and allows gateways to other protocols listed here.
FireWire IEEE1394 can be described as a high speed peer-to-peer serial bus. It is used for I/O, networking drives, and similar industrial field hardware. By simply plugging into one drive on a system, a user will gain access to all parameters in the entire system. Due to FireWire communication being so fast, registration control can be performed via communications. FireWire allows for simple integration of large systems and allows gateways to other protocols listed here.
Profibus is an extremely popular standard for field bus communication, and is used commonly in industrial process automation. This protocol contains up to 32 nodes without a repeater, and makes use of a single-cable "bus" structure, thus eliminating hard wiring and all related issues.
Modbus/TCP, Ethernet/IP, and Profinet are used widely and long standing open Ethernet-based protocols that allow networking of SSD drives to a variety of PLC’s, HMI’s, and other devices. Communication speed is 10/100 Mbit/sec, and connections are made via "Cat-5" cable and RJ45 connectors that is easily available.
CANopen is a CAN-based higher layer protocol. It is used for motion oriented machine control networks, and contains highly flexible configuration capabilities. It uses simple "twisted pair" cable with maximum length of 500 meters. To have even more network flexibility, CANopen can be combined with FireWire or Link.
ControlNet is an open network protocol used mainly in industrial automation. It is a real-time control layer network based on the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP), and is a provider of high speed transport data. It is a highly deterministic and repeatable network. ControlNet makes use of RG-6 type coaxial cable.
DeviceNet is a low-level network providing connections among simple industrial devices like sensors and motor controllers to higher level devices. DeviceNet is a 4-wire system that makes use of "twisted pair" cables. Maximum trunk distance is 500 meters, with maximum drop length of meters.
Modbus RTU is a basic and efficient protocol that makes use of the RS-232/485 serial network. It operates at 57 kBaud, and can communicate with up to 32 nodes, with maximum cable length of 1200 meters, while using RS485. These can also be combined with Link or FireWire for even more network flexibility.
